CVS Pharmacy

In 1963, brothers Stanley and Sidney Goldstein and partner Ralph Hoagland founded Consumer Value Stores, (shortened to CVS) in Lowell, Massachusetts. When it was founded, CVS was originally operated by Mark Steven Service Merchandisers, a company founded by the Goldstein brothers specializing in health and beauty products.

CVS was able to offer customers good products at the best prices by leveraging the Mark Steven relationship. Just a little over a year after the first CVS store was opened in Lowell, the company had 17 stores in New England, and over the next 45+ years, the company has expaned throughout the world, and they now operate over 5,000 stores.

There are currently four CVS locations in Lowell.
